Each Castle is a Part of the Bigger Story

These remarkable structures did not exist as solitary outposts, however. They were, in fact, linked to one another through the carefully-ordered hierarchy of the medieval feudal system and the people who owned, built, resided in, defended, and conquered them. It is safe to say that from the Norman Conquest of 1066 until the English Civil War of the mid-17th Century, there is not one major British historical figure who is not connected to a castle in one way or another.
